Winthrop WA is a wild west town in the Methow Valley, located at the base of the North Cascades.  It has over 120-miles of nordic ski trails, the 2nd largest trail system in the United States.  During summer months these trails are used for hiking and mountain biking.

Winter Activities - Loup Loup, Winthrop Ice Rink, North Cascade Heli

• Downhill Skiing:  Drive 40-minutes east to the Loup-Loup Ski Bowl on Highway 20 near Okanogan, perfect for beginner or intermediate skiers. Ride the Quad Chair, Junior Poma or Rope Tow for access to 10 ski runs.  Tube rentals are available on the weekends or holidays.  Visit the Day Lodge for refreshments.   Loup-Loup is closed on certain weekdays, so please call ahead.
• Ice Skating:  Visit the "Winthrop Ice and Sports Rink".  Call 509 996 4199 to check opening times.
• Heli-Skiing:  Book a 3-day Adventure Skiing Tour on miles of untracked snow in the North Cascades.  North Cascade Heli operates out of the nearby township of Mazama.
• Cross Country Skiing:  The Methow Valley is a popular Northwest destination for cross-country skiing, and has over 120-miles of groomed trails. Contact the Methow Valley Ski School at Sun Mountain Lodge for rentals and lessons.
• Hut-to-Hut Cross Country Skiing:  Contact Rendezvous Huts for a "hut-to-hut" Cross Country Ski Experience in the Methow Valley.

The Merc Playhouse is just a 10 minute drive from Winthrop, located in the historic Mercantile Building in Twisp.  This intimate performance space is open year-round, and no audience member is further than 20-feet from the stage. 

Attractions near Winthrop WA

• Chelan is 1-hour south of Winthrop.  Take a boat tour from Chelan to the remote headwaters of Stehekin.
• During summer, Winthrop is the start or end point for the 74-mile drive along the North Cascades Scenic Highway between Newhalem and Winthrop.
