Washington State History Museum - Tacoma
The Washington History Museum provides a fascinating overview of the geological and cultural history of WA. It's located 30 minutes south of Seattle in Tacoma. Allow a minimum of 2.5 hours to explore the museum.
The elaborate exhibits in the Museum's Great Hall are fun and interactive. Highlights include:
- Exhibits on the construction of the "Grand Coulee" and "Bonneville" Dams on the Columbia River, including an impressive 3-screen Theater Presentation.
- Exhibits on the impact of the First Railway built across the Cascades from the East, and the life of migrant workers involved in its construction.
- Frontier Towns Exhibit with replica of a wagon and general store
- Replica of a Native American Salish Plank House
- Replica of a Hooverville Shack from Depression-era Seattle
- Replica of a coal mine near Seattle
After exploring the Great Hall, move to the upper level of the Museum to see the:
- Model Railroad - the largest in Washington State
- Kids' Learning Center
After visiting the Museum, find restaurants and other things to do in Tacoma.
