Lakewold Gardens
Lakewold Gardens is located 40 minutes south of Seattle in the old Lakes District near Tacoma.
It was originally a country estate for a wealthy Tacoma family, and features a European style garden and Georgian manor. In 1938 the estate was purchased by Corydon and Eulalie Wagner, and in the late 1950’s Eulalie commissioned renowned landscape architect Thomas Church to design the formal garden.
A small entrance fee is required to visit Lakewold. Always check opening times, as these vary by season.
Lakewold
The highlights of the 10-acre garden include the grand circle driveway flanked by over 500 varieties of rhododendrons, the aqua waters of the quatrefoil pool, and the geometric parterre beds reminiscent of an 18th century European garden. The most peaceful section of the garden is the overlook and stream just beside Gravelly Lake. Although beautiful, the garden is small and will only take 30 minutes to fully explore.
Wagner House
The Wagner House is open to visitors, and is also a popular venue for weddings. The grand entranceway to the house features an Italianate floor, chandelier and spiral staircase. This directly leads to a light-filled sunroom with stunning views across the gardens to the lake. Don’t forget to step outside onto the charming wisteria covered veranda.
Gift Shop
A lovely gift shop and nursery is located in the old carriage house.

Beautiful gardens, although the grounds were much smaller than I expected. Nice place for a wedding.
