Directions to Charles Lindbergh Grave

A visit to Lindbergh's grave is usually combined with a day trip along the 44-mile Hana Highway.  Please note this is an extremely difficult cliff-top drive, with plenty of hairpin turns and one-way bridges.   Lindbergh's grave is situated 18 minutes past Hana down an unsealed road off the Hana Highway, in the peaceful grounds of the Palapala Ho'omau Church (1864). The grave is a short distance past the church, and has a simple headstone with pilot's wings reads:

Charles A. Lindbergh
Born Michigan 1902, Died Maui 1974
If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea.

It is believed that Lindbergh was buried standing up, facing towards the ocean, consistent with the burial tradition for Hawaiian warriorsTourists will experience an overwhelming sense of solitude when visiting this serene and unique destination
