World Forestry Center
The World Forestry Center is located 10 minutes from downtown Portland in Washington Park, and houses two floors of exhibits in a northwestern style lodge. This center provides a unique insight into the forestlands covering half of Washington State and Oregon, and is perfect for all ages.
There are plenty of fun and interactive exhibits on the lower floor of the World Forestry Center, including a parachute jumping simulator where kids can learn about Fire Jumpers, the first line of defense in a forest fire. There’s also a tree camera to play with, a simulated river raft ride, and a timber jack harvest simulator.
Adults can learn about the ownership of the Washington and Oregon forestlands, including private timberlands, tribal forest lands, and state and county forest lands. The exhibits provide fascinating insight into the varying interests and perspectives on how to best manage these forests for future generations. The cinema also has a 10-minute presentation. The second floor is focused on forests in other parts of the world, including China, Russia, Africa and South America.
