Port Orford Heads State Park
Port Orford Heads State Park is located on the Southern Oregon Coast, 30 minutes south of Bandon.
Port Orford was once the site of a Lifeboat Station, and the crew quarters have now been converted into an excellent museum. The museum provides information on the US Coast Guard history and rescue efforts from this dangerous section of the Oregon Coast. The original station was built in 1934 to man this section of the coast. The museum is open from April to October. Call ahead to check hours: 800 551 6949.
There are also spectacular coastal trails near the museum. Don’t miss the Cove Trail, providing a bird's eye view above Nellie’s Cove from where the rescues boats used to be launched.
