Oregon Caves National Monument
The Oregon Cave is located in the Siskiyou Mountains in Southwestern Oregon. The closest township is Cave Junction, 50 minutes away. It's a long drive to the Oregon Caves National Monument, but well worth the effort.
Books an Oregon Caves Tour
Experienced guides run 90-minute tours of the marble halls of the Oregon Cave through narrow passages, stairs and up ladders. The tour is considered moderately strenuous, and should be avoided by people with health issues. Children must also be over 42 inches tall to take the tour.
During summer weekends, the last tour of the day is conducted by candlelight to recreate the conditions experienced by the first cave explorers. Tours are extremely popular in summer, and wait times can extend up to 2 hours. Use this time to have lunch at the Chateau or explore the surrounding trails.
**The Oregon Cave is closed during winter from November to March. Check Opening Times and conditions before leaving**.
Enjoy lunch at the Oregon Caves Chateau
The Chateau was built in 1934 and is a National Historic Landmark (open May thru September). It occupies an enchanting location in a shaded ravine beside a lovely waterfall. There is a restaurant, café and deli at the Chateau, and plenty of picnic tables outside to enjoy lunch. Lodging is also available at the Chateau.
There are some lovely trails above the Chateau through Old Growth Conifer Forest. A light mist often shrouds this forest, making these trails incredibly atmospheric. See the largest Douglas Fir tree in Oregon along these trails.
