Newport Oregon

Newport was founded in 1865 and is the largest town in Central Oregon, located 2.5 hours south-west of Portland on the Oregon Coast.  It includes a number of great attractions including NYE Beach, Yaquina Head Lighthouse, and the Newport Oregon Aquarium.

Things to do in Newport

1. NYE Beach: Newport is heavily developed along the Highway 101 corridor, however the historic NYE Beach area is lovely, with upscale B&B’s, gift shops, cafés and restaurants.  Some good accommodation options at NYE Beach include the Sylvia Beach Hotel, Greenstone Inn, and Elizabeth Inn.
2. Bay Boulevard in the Bayfront Area: This working port houses canneries and fish-packing plants, but also has a wide choice of restaurants and attractions; such as the Waxworks Museum, Undersea Gardens, and Ripley’s Believe it or Not.
3. Oregon Coast Aquarium:  Don’t forget to visit the nearby Oregon Coast Aquarium, south of the Bay and across the Yaquina Bay Bridge, with the impressive "Passages of the Deep" tunnel with five species of sharks.
4. Yaquina Head Lighthouse:  Finally, the must-see Yaquina Head Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in Oregon, with incredible coastal views from a spectacular headland.  The smaller Yaquina Bay Lighthouse south of Newport was built in 1871, and operated for just 3 years until the Yaquina Heads Lighthouse was built.
