Mount Bachelor

Mount Bachelor is located in the Central Cascades in Oregon, nearly 4-hours south of Portland. It’s primarily a winter ski destination with over 3,683-acres of lift served terrain, making it one of the biggest ski resorts in the US.  Bend is the nearest township, just 45 minutes away, and transforms into an exciting ski-town over winter.  See Bend Oregon.

Ski Mount Bachelor

Mount Bachelor’s ski season usually runs from November to May. There are 71 ski runs with a maximum run length of 1.5 miles.  The resort has 7 Express Quads, 3 Triple Chairlifts, and 2 Tubing Lifts.  The alpine terrain rating is:

• 15%  novice/green
• 25%  intermediate/blue
• 35%  advanced/black
• 25%  expert/double black

There are also over a dozen cross country trails.  Their alpine terrain rating is:

• 5%   novice/green
• 69% intermediate/blue
• 26% expert/black

Mount Bachelor Village - day lodges

There are a number of day lodges at Mt Bachelor with restaurants, bars and cafes; including West Village, Sunrise Lodge, Pine Marten Lodge and the Nordic Center.  A wide range of other amenities can be accessed at the village such as childcare, a ski-shop, rental center and ski school.

Snowshoe and Dog Sledding

Showshoe Tours are available through “Wanderlust Tours” in the Deschutes National Forest.  Visitors can sign-up for special events like “Bonfire on the Snow” or a “Moonlight Snowshoe Tour”. 

The US Forest Service also offers a 90-minute Snowshoe Interpretive Programs to learn about the geology, plants and animals around Mt Bachelor.  Call the snowshoe hotline for tour information (541) 383 4055.

Another option is to book a thrilling dog sled ride with “Trail of Dreams”.  One hour or half day trips are available, departing from Sunrise Lodge.  Call 1-800-829-2442.

Resorts & Hotels near Mt Bachelor

There is no accommodation on the mountain.  The nearest lodging options include:

• Elk Lake Resort:  12 miles west of Mt Bachelor (snow cat only)
• Seventh Mountain Resort:  15 miles east of Mt Bachelor (shuttle available)
• Township of Bend:  22 miles east of Mt Bachelor (shuttle available)
• Sunriver Resort:  20 miles southeast of Mt Bachelor (shuttle available)
