OMSI - Oregon Museum of Science & Industry
Kids will thrill to the sights and sounds of one of Portland’s most popular attractions; the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI). The OMSI is located just minutes from Portland’s downtown area, on the waterfront of the Willamette River.
OMSI is designed to provide a more “hands-on” experience for kids in a fun, educational environment. The highlight is a visit to “Turbine Hall” near the entrance to the museum, where kids can interact with a range of exhibits with a strong emphasis on engineering, science and technology. Kids can step inside a Gemini Spacecraft Replica, launch a water rocket while learning about Newton’s third law of motion, explore the Laser and Holography lab, build a computer, play in the Inventor’s Ball Room, view the mechanics of a steam engine, experience a Magnitude 6.8 earthquake simulation, engineer a tall building resistant to an earthquake, and learn about the aerodynamics of planes. There are two other exhibition rooms up the escalators, focusing on the human body and some interesting animals.
Other popular attractions at OMSI, are the Planetarium with movies & laser shows, IMAX Theater, Submarine Tour and Motion Simulator Rides. There is a small snack bar for refreshments, and an excellent Gift Shop with plenty of educational toys near the entrance.
